Children Bed Time

Hubby is away and my days had just gotten more challenging especially when it is time to put the children to bed. Stories don't work on them, fed them, a little lullaby, slow pat on their back hoping they would fall asleep but it actually takes e two hours with some nagging to make them sleep.I just thought maybe there are some parents out there who have the same problem putting their children to bed too. So i searched on the internet and found these tips, they have great pictures too.How to Put a Child to Bed at Night. they also have a video on how to create night routine for children. I will try this and hope it would be helpful for other mums too. (I'll be more attentive and more sensitive too)

Step 1
Share a snack with them. If they prefer milk and cookies, then you have some also. Perhaps they prefer a little sandwich, then have them prepare it with you. Make this time a time for just the two of you. (it would be quite messy if you got more than one kid)

Step 2
Talk about their day, and what they did. If they are not old enough to talk, then just hold them, kiss them, cuddle them, sing to them. Allow them to feel the love you share. Let them read their favorite book. (eventhough sometimes you'll have to answer hundreds of questions to feed their curiosity)

Step 3
Prepare their bath. Have them help you, if they are older. Make this a fun time, let them add some bubble bath, and both of you enjoy the size of the bubbles. A small child might be bathed in the sink, but it can still become a relaxing the loving time.

Step 4
Tuck them into the bed, Sit or lay next to them and read them a story, or nursery rhymes, or tell them a story about when you were little. Pretty soon their eyes will start closing, but stay there, holding them, and singing little song. A very young child might not be able to sing, but they can enjoy hearing the melody and the sounds. Let them read their favorite book, after you leave.

Step 5
Putting a child to sleep is not difficult, if it is handled with love and affection. Usually by bedtime, they are tired, and fall asleep easily.

Tips
- Be calm
- Children are more aware and more sensitive then you might think
- Warn them ahead of time, be like "Jenny ten minutes till bedtime".
- Establish a set time for the routine to start - this will help as the child will know what is going to happen.
- We are talking about children, young children, perhaps up to the age of 7 years. An older child might need more personal attention, in a different way. But love and affection will always relax any child of any age. (and we thought we have given them so much love already.. ;p)
- Make sure your child brushes their teeth after eating a snack or drinking anything besides water before going to bed. The residue left on teeth from food or drinks promote bacteria growth which can lead to tooth decay, especially if allowed to stay on the teeth all night.
- Do not argue with the child, or with another adult before putting the child to sleep. This will be upsetting, and they will be too concerned to fall asleep.
